GLP-1 Pill Cost: What You’ll Pay in 2026

If you'd rather swallow a pill than give yourself a weekly injection, there are now two FDA-approved oral GLP-1 drugs on market: Rybelsus and Wegovy pill. A third, Foundayo (orforglipron), launched in early 2026.

The Wegovy pill starts at $149 per month for self pay patients through NovoCare Pharmacy. Rybelsus, which has been around longer, costs $900 to $1,200 per month at retail without insurance. Same active ingredient in both. Same company makes them. The price gap exists because of how they're marketed, what they're approved for, and which savings programs each one has.

How much does Wegovy pill cost?

The Wegovy pill is oral semaglutide approved for weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition. It's a daily pill, taken once in morning on an empty stomach.

Through NovoCare Pharmacy, which is Novo Nordisk's direct-to-patient pharmacy, self-pay pricing breaks down like this:

  • 1.5 mg and 4 mg (starter doses): $149 per month. The 4 mg price holds until August 31, 2026, then increases to $199.

  • 9 mg and 25 mg (maintenance doses): $299 per month.

The list price is $1,349 per month, which is same as injection. But almost nobody pays that. The self-pay program through NovoCare is standard route for people without insurance or with plans that don't cover it.

If you have commercial insurance that covers Wegovy, manufacturer's savings card can bring your copay down to as low as $25 per month. That card doesn't work with Medicare, Medicaid, or other government insurance.

One thing people miss: Novo Nordisk announced in February 2026 that list price for Wegovy will drop to $675 per month starting January 1, 2027. That won't change self-pay program pricing, but it will help people on high-deductible plans where cost is tied to a percentage of list price rather than a flat copay.

How much does Rybelsus cost?

Rybelsus is also oral semaglutide, made by same company. But it's only approved for type 2 diabetes, not for weight loss. That distinction drives entire cost difference.

Without insurance, Rybelsus costs $900 to $1,200 per month at retail pharmacies. The manufacturer list price is about $998 for a 30-day supply. GoodRx coupons can bring it down to roughly $940 at some pharmacies, and SingleCare shows prices around $903 for 14 mg dose. But those are still six to eight times more expensive than Wegovy pill at $149.

Why is it so much more? Because Rybelsus doesn't have a self-pay program comparable to what Novo Nordisk built for Wegovy. The Wegovy pricing was designed to compete in cash-pay weight loss market. Rybelsus was launched as a diabetes drug years earlier, and its pricing reflects that older market structure.

If you have commercial insurance that covers Rybelsus for type 2 diabetes, savings card can bring your copay to as low as $10 per month. For insured diabetes patients, Rybelsus can actually be cheaper than Wegovy pill. But for uninsured patients, math flips completely.

Here's catch that confuses people: Rybelsus is not included in Novo Nordisk's patient assistance program as of 2026. That means if you don't have insurance and your income qualifies for free medication, you can get Wegovy for $0 but you can't get Rybelsus for $0. Another reason Wegovy pill is almost always better financial choice for uninsured patients.

How much does Foundayo (orforglipron) cost?

Foundayo is newest oral GLP-1, made by Eli Lilly. It's a different molecule from semaglutide. You take it once a day, and it doesn't require empty-stomach timing that semaglutide pills do.

Early pricing through select programs starts at $149 per month, matching Wegovy pill's entry price. As drug is still in its initial rollout, pricing details may shift as broader availability increases.

The convenience factor with orforglipron is real. The semaglutide pills (both Rybelsus and Wegovy) need to be taken on an empty stomach with a small sip of water, and you can't eat or drink anything else for at least 30 minutes. Foundayo doesn't have those restrictions. For people who struggled with dosing rules on semaglutide pills, that difference matters.

Are GLP-1 pills cheaper than injections?

It depends on which pill and which injection you're comparing. Here's how numbers line up for self-pay patients without insurance:

The Wegovy pill at starter doses ($149 per month) is cheaper than any brand-name GLP-1 injection on market. At maintenance doses ($299 per month), it's cheaper than Wegovy injection ($349) and Zepbound injection ($449 for doses above 5 mg), but not by as much.

Rybelsus at retail ($900 to $1,200 per month) is roughly same price as brand-name injections at retail. If you're paying cash for Rybelsus, you're not saving anything by choosing pill over shot.

Foundayo at $149 per month is cheapest entry point tied with Wegovy pill starter dose.

The real savings with GLP-1 pills show up in two places. First, you don't need syringes, alcohol swabs, or sharps containers. Those add $5 to $15 per month on injections, which doesn't sound like much until you multiply it across a year. Second, some telehealth platforms charge lower consultation fees for oral prescriptions than for injectables, because there's less patient education involved in taking a pill.

Which GLP-1 pill is best value right now?

For uninsured patients paying out of pocket, Wegovy pill at $149 per month is clear answer. It's cheapest brand name GLP-1 in any form, pill or injection, at starter dose level. At maintenance doses, it's $299 per month, which is still less than every brand-name injection except introductory Wegovy injection offer.

For insured patients with type 2 diabetes, Rybelsus may actually cost less if your plan covers it well. With manufacturer savings card, Rybelsus can drop to $10 per month. That's less than any other GLP-1 at any dose. But that price only works if you have commercial insurance, a diabetes diagnosis, and your plan's formulary includes Rybelsus.

For people who want a pill but have trouble with semaglutide dosing requirements, Foundayo at $149 per month offers a simpler daily routine without empty-stomach rule.

If you're currently on a GLP-1 injection and wondering whether switching to a pill could save money, answer depends on your dose. At lower doses, pill is almost always cheaper. At higher maintenance doses, gap narrows, and some people find injection more convenient than a daily pill with strict timing rules.

The GLP-1 pill market is still new. Two years ago, Rybelsus was only option, and it cost almost $1,000 per month with no real discount path for uninsured patients. Today, three oral options exist, two of them start at $149, and list price for Wegovy is scheduled to drop by roughly half in 2027. The trend is moving in right direction for people who prefer pills over needles.
