Why book

Reasons to book your skin yeast infection visit

Yeast in skin folds is very treatable — but it needs the right antifungal and the right approach to keep coming back. This visit confirms the diagnosis and puts prevention in place.

You have a red, raw, or itchy rash in a skin fold — under breasts, groin, or abdomen

The rash has small satellite bumps around the edge

OTC antifungal cream has helped but the rash keeps returning

You have diabetes and skin yeast infections have become more frequent

You want to know if an oral antifungal is needed for your situation

You want a plan to prevent recurrence, not just treat the current flare

Frequently Asked Questions

Cutaneous candidiasis results from Candida overgrowth on skin — typically in warm, moist skin folds (under the breasts, groin, armpits, between fingers). Contributing factors include obesity, diabetes, sweating, antibiotic use, immunosuppression, and incontinence. The affected skin appears red, moist, and often has satellite pustules at the margins.

Both are fungal but caused by different organisms. Ringworm (tinea) is caused by dermatophytes and classically produces a ring-shaped, scaly lesion on dry skin. Candidiasis typically appears in moist skin folds as a bright red, moist rash with satellite pustules and no ring shape. Treatment differs — antifungal class matters.

Allowing air circulation, wearing breathable cotton fabrics, using absorbent powder (plain cornstarch or antifungal powder), and thoroughly drying skin folds after bathing are practical measures. Keeping skin dry is as important as antifungal treatment — moisture perpetuates the infection.

Recurrence is common when predisposing factors aren't addressed. Managing diabetes, maintaining a healthy weight, keeping skin folds dry, and promptly treating early recurrences are key prevention strategies. For frequent recurrences, a preventive regimen with antifungal powder or intermittent antifungal use may be recommended.

Topical antifungals (clotrimazole, miconazole, nystatin) are very well tolerated with minimal local effects. Topical steroids are sometimes combined with antifungals to reduce inflammation — but should not be used alone, as they worsen fungal infections. Oral fluconazole for extensive or resistant cases is generally well tolerated; liver monitoring for prolonged use.
